as in London than to construct large impounding reservoirs to store water on high ground but at long distances.
There are Towns in England - Liverpool, Wigan - supplied with water, partially by Gravitation works and partially by Steam engine pumping.
Any extension of the Water Works for Hong Kong should be fully considered so as to avoid any further disappointment.

The information appended may be of use to the Governor of Hong Kong in estimating for a full supply of Water. Water Works in England, have cost to Construct for Each Million Gallons per Day supplied: Liverpool £115,000.0.0
Glasgow, supplied from a large natural Lake – Loch Katrine - Cost about £60,000.0.0
To provide Hong Kong with 1½ Million Gallons per day would cost at the Liverpool rate £172,500.0.0 and if labour and Materials are dearer in Hong Kong than in Liverpool this sum would be increased. £200,000 may more probably represent the sum required for works to supply 1½ Millions of Gallons of Water per day to 100,000 of the population of Hong Kong, or two pounds per head of the population.
Water Works in England have cost from five pounds up to three pounds, ten shillings, per head of the populations supplied.
